"Penrhyn Point And Port Mawddach Light Railway"

Our Club '009' Layout

The Enfield Town Model Railway Club's narrow gauge layout started with construction of the baseboards in January 1999. Design and track laying was completed in August 1999. Wiring and testing then started during September. The layout was shown in this state at the club's exhibition on 13th November 1999, to show the public what is involved in building a model railway, from design to scenery construction.

The layout has been named 'Penrhyn Point And Port Mawddach (pronounced morthack) Light Railway', and the track plan is shown below. This arrangement allows for both terminus to fiddle yard and continuous run operations to cater for both club nights and exhibition running.

The main feature of the layout is the line running past a flooded quarry, which gives considerable scope for interesting scenic modelling. The lake has formed due to the natural flooding of the mine. Weed and detail have been added to further improve the realism. Provision is also being made for a future extension to another board, possibly a harbour, hence the spur in the bottom right hand corner.
