ABERGWYNAFON - '009' Scale by Tony Minty

Abergwynafon represents the coastal terminus of a fictitious Welsh narrow gauge line known as the Gwyn Valley Railway.

In the spring of 2003 I decided to scrap my previous '009' layout, which was a model of Dolgoch Falls station on the Talyllyn Railway. This layout had not been used for a long time and its operating potential was very limited. Also over the years I had built up a collection of '009' locos and most of them were not suitable for use on it, so I decided to build a new layout which was freelance in design. After spending three months working on the layout I lost interest but I recommenced work on it in the spring of 2004.

The layout is just seven feet long and being so small it does not have its own legs but when exhibited at our Club's 2004 show it fitted onto a couple of tables.

The locos are kit built and most of them were purchased second hand in a part finished state. All the coaches and wagons were built by myself from kits from manufacturers such as GEM, Meridian and Parkside Dundas.

Although the line is fictitious, most of the stock is based on that of the prototype lines and include examples of the Talyllyn, Ffestiniog, Welsh Highland and Vale of Rheidol railways.
