Enfield Town Model Railway Club

Club Activities

At present, there are five club layouts at various stages of development, and many more are being built by members at home. Some of the layouts are shown below.

'Chasebury' our club '0' Gauge layout
  • 'Chasebury' (see left) is our successful '0' gauge project. There is a separate page about this layout elsewhere on this site. This layout has been exhibited during its various stages of construction, and now that it is more or less complete members enjoy operating and showing it at exhibitions.
  • Brian has just started to build this table top 'round and round' '00' layout (see right). When finished it will primarily be used to entertain children at exhibitions and fetes, running all the usual characters that kids like so much. Maybe the children will want to start the enjoyable hobby themselves.

Our '009' layout
  • The Penrhyn Point and Porth Mawddach Light Railway is our '009' project (see left). The layout is featured elsewhere on this site. Although started some time ago there is still much to do before the layout can be called 'finished'. The small team who form the '009' group would welcome some new members.
  • A new 'EM' layout had been proposed as we have many members who are interested in the more accurate eighteen millimetre gauge. Construction of the layout is now well under way (see right) and is featured elsewhere on this site. You can read about our thoughts behind the design and planning of "St. Paul's Road" and keep an eye on progress by clicking here.

The 'wire in tube' method
  • A new '00' layout has been started. We have recycled the existing '00' boards to save us time and money. So far, the track has been laid and the point changing mechanisms are now being installed, as can be seen on the left. If you would like to help with this project, please come along one Thursday evening.
  • A portable 'G' scale layout (see picture right) to cater for those interested in larger models is under construction. The 'G' scale group would welcome new members to help with this project.

Weathering a van
  • Patrick can be seen here, on the left, weathering one of his wagons for his 'H0' American layout. The layout, 'North Side', appeared for the first time at our own show in 2007. You can read more about the layout by clicking here.

If you think you might like to join our club, please come along one Thursday evening and introduce yourself. You can help with the construction of these layouts and meet some of our members. We have a supply of tea and coffee and you will be made most welcome. Perhaps you would like to help us show these layouts at exhibitions in the months and years ahead.
