A
report on the show by John Green on behalf of the Enfield Town MRC
|
| |
|
This
year the club decided to have an "Open Day" rather than a large
exhibition as we have a new exhibition organiser. We were able to have
our weeknight venue, St. Paul's Centre, Enfield, on Saturday 25th June,
which provided a large hall, stage, side room and kitchen. All this was
at one end of Enfield Town Shopping Centre. We have many good modellers
in the club, who exhibited and operated a dozen layouts with the help
of a few friends. It is good to realise that we could mount a similar
display with a dozen different layouts from our own members perhaps
next year. There were also the usual trader's stalls selling models, tools
and other accessories as well as second hand stock, always a pleasure
to rummage through in the hope of finding a bargain. We were pleased to
be visited by a few hundred members of the public, including many families
with young children. It is good to see so much enthusiasm among the younger
generation. We hope that they will be made welcome when they try to join
a club one day. All being well we hope to hold a similar exhibition in
Enfield Town in 2006, in St. Paul's Centre again if it is still available.
Some
photos taken at the show can be seen below along with a brief description
of each.

Above
left--- This is Brian Kennaby with his 'N' gauge layout called "Leekbrook
Junction". The layout has been exhibited a number of times at various
shows and always attracts a lot of attention. A Staffordshire branch line
has been depicted here with the inspiration coming from the preserved Churnet
Valley Railway. |
|
Above
right--- A 3 mm scale layout by Colin Wilson. "Tyttenhanger Lane"
is a small terminus of an East Anglian branch line around 1960. Here Colin
is explaining the finer points of 3 mm. The layout measures approximately
10 foot 6 inches long by 12 inches deep so is fairly easy to transport
to shows. |

Above
left--- A general view of the hall showing some trade stands, layouts and,
visitors enjoying the show. The show which we held in the St. Paul's Centre
was co-ordinated by Richard Broom and his helpers. Members are able to
read more about our show in the club Journal, "The Enfield Town Line". |
|
Above
right--- "Wembury", a '00' gauge layout utilising many "ready
to run" items of rolling stock as well as some modified units. Jim
(on the right) has exhibited his layout a number of times over the years
and it shows what can be achieved in a relatively small space, for '00'
gauge. |

Above
left--- Roger's "Elkington-on-Sea Tramways" layout depicts a
British seaside tramway in the 1950s. The layout would undoubtedly bring
back memories for some of the older visitors as the setting was typical
of many seaside resorts of the period. |
|
Above
right--- Keith is more used to larger things, but here he has very successfully
built an 'N' gauge American layout in a small space. "Wood Knot Creek
(Mill) " attracted a lot of attention from our visitors.

Above
left--- "Abergwynafon" was exhibited by Tony Minty. The layout,
in '009' is a model of a typical Welsh narrow gauge line which has been
modelled in 4 mm to 1 foot scale. Photo P. Watson. |
|
Above
right--- "Chasebury" is one of our own club layouts. The model
has been built in '0' gauge (7 mm to the foot scale) and represents part
of a railway serving a large industrial estate. All locos and rolling stock
are owned by club members. |
