Grove Park - 'EM' Gauge

Grove Park was originally built and exhibited by Weston Railway Modellers. It was featured in the September 1991 edition of Railway Modeller. It was then exhibited at a few shows in the south of England, including Expo EM by Martin Marriott using stock built by him and by Colin Wilson.

Due to its age, some refurbishment and repair work has been necessary, but the layout has now been returned to its former condition and is available for the exhibition circuit once again.

General view of station area.

Set in the early 1950's, Grove Park comprises a suburban BR station alongside a separate London Underground station. Both are through stations. The area is slowly recovering, and the lack of maintenance over the war years is still evident. The BR side has recently had colour light signalling installed, and the remains of the old semaphore signal near the over bridge are still awaiting removal. The occupants of the double deck bus have a good view of the BR and underground platforms from the top deck as they drive over the bridge.

Some shunting on the goods side takes place from time to time; the wagons are usually shunted to and from the factory siding near the high retaining wall typical of that part of London. Engineering trains and rakes of empty passenger stock are stabled occasionally in the lay by siding just beyond the station limits ready for their next tour of duty.

A good view can be had by the occupants of the double deck bus.

The layout is 15ft 8ins long by 19ins wide (including the fiddle yards at each end) and is built to EM standards (4mm : 1ft scale, 18.2 mm gauge). It requires one 13 amp socket and has its own integral lighting. It needs a minimum of two operators to provide a proper running schedule, although one operator can provide a basic Sunday service if pushed !
