Leekbrook
Junction - by Brian Kennaby
This
is an N Gauge layout based
on the Churnet Valley Railway in Staffordshire. The Churnet Valley Railway
actually operates from Cheddleton Station to Kingsley and Froghall Station,
with a stop at Consall Station. When returning the train goes back through
Cheddleton Station and on to Leekbrook Junction. The photo to the right shows
my baseboard during the early stages of construction, enabling the track
plan to be seen. Passengers are unable to board or detrain at Leekbrook Junction
as it was one of Dr. Beechings casualties in the sixties. The company
have plans to develop limited facilities in the future there. The layout
is designed to incorporate some of the interesting features found along the
line which include the Cauldon Canal with a lock. The Black Lion Pub, which
can be found a short walk from Consall Station. A caravan site which is not
far from Cheddleton Station, an Industrial area which you will find at Kingsley
and Froghall with Lime kilns, and a wooded area with a nature reserve.
My layout
is set in the 1950s before the Beeching closures when Leekbrook Junction
would have been operational. The layout has authentic sounds of birds singing
and bells from the church.
The size of the layout is 5 foot long by 3 foot deep and is operated from
the back. It just requires one 13 amp socket for power and two chairs for
the operators.
