Rixworth Green - by Colin Wilson

Rixworth Green is the end of a fictional branch somewhere on the Surrey/Sussex border, set in the mid 1920s. The concept is something like the Kent and East Sussex Railway, inspired by the buildings at Bodiam. The London, Brighton and South Coast Railway was the original company, but it is likely that other Southern Railway locos and stock will be used.

A general view of the layout

The layout was conceived when the EM Gauge Society held its AGM at Rickmansworth; Rixworth is a shortened form of that name. It is built to 18.83 standards (otherwise known as P4 or S4), because I wanted to see for myself what modelling to exact scale is like.

Size was determined by the fact that it has to fit the boot of a small car, hence the baseboards are 3ft long by 1ft wide.

All quiet at the station

The track was laid and wiring completed a few years ago. Not a lot happened for some time due to other projects. By May 2007 the basic scenery shapes and buildings were in place, and most of the stock was built. By September 2007 the scenery was in a presentable condition, but there was still a lot of detail work to be done.

The photos above were taken during March 2008. The layout was exhibited for the first time at the Barking show this year.
