- West Valley Railway - by Bill Sheppard

In 1984 I landscaped my back garden and decided to incorporate a railway in 0 gauge. After about two years hard work the big day came, and I ran the first train. The photo below shows Valley Side station. Leaving the station (exit left of picture), passing the level crossing, traversing a bridge over a pond, the train stops at Waterfall station. This station is so called as it is by the waterfall which runs into the pond. The train then runs over a rockery, into a right hand bend, and then down the back of the garden, round another right hand bend, and into a station called Branston.

This station sits on top of a brick built box full of flowering. The train now moves off towards Valley Side station where it first started. The loco then enters the run round ready for the return trip back round the garden. The photo below shows the coaling stage at Valley Side station, and the lorry in the photo is a model of a Ford lorry with my son-in-law's name on the side E Darby & Co. To finish this story the name of the railway is West Valley Railway, and I am a member of the Enfield Town Model Railway Club.

Sadly, for the West Valley Railway, Bill moved house recently. The layout was dismantled, but will not be forgotten. I and other club members have many fond memories of visits to Bill's garden to help operate the line. Ed.
